What is MCP, in plain words?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It gives an AI assistant a way to use an outside service. Here, the outside service is Arca.ph's developer marketplace. Instead of asking the assistant to guess who might fit from general web knowledge, you ask it to search actual profiles.

Arca.ph supports searching with assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Grok Bot. Your assistant helps with the search and comparison; it does not take over the hiring decision. You can also browse without an AI assistant.

How do I use my assistant to search Arca.ph?

  1. Sign in. Use your work email to access Arca.ph. Profiles are free to view.
  2. Connect your assistant to Arca.ph over MCP. Follow the current connection instructions for the assistant you use. The setup can differ between assistants; this article explains the hiring workflow rather than a particular app's settings.
  3. Describe the work and the limits. Give the stack, relevant experience, expected pay range and US-hours overlap you need. Include English, self-reported AI tools and time-tracking preference if they matter.
  4. Ask for a comparison, not just a list. Have the assistant explain which profile evidence fits, which details are self-reported and which details are missing.
  5. Choose who to meet. Arca.ph reaches out when you ask. If the developer says yes, that is an introduction. Then request optional proof and run your own interview.

Read How it works for the hiring steps. Do not treat an assistant's summary as a substitute for reviewing the underlying profiles.

What profile fields can my assistant compare?

The assistant searches the same profiles you can browse, including:

  • Expected pay, per hour or month as shared on the profile
  • US-hours overlap and stated schedule flexibility
  • Self-reported English
  • AI tools the developer reports using
  • Whether the developer is open to time tracking
  • Resume, work history, languages, frameworks and cloud tools
  • Video-interview transcripts and written answers when available
  • Test results when already on file

Self-reported AI tools are not a verified measure of AI expertise. Openness to time tracking is a preference, not a tracking service supplied by Arca.ph. A missing test result is missing evidence, not a failed test.

What should I ask ChatGPT, Claude or Grok Bot?

Use a brief that lets the assistant show its reasoning from the profile:

Find backend developers with PostgreSQL experience and at least four hours of US-hours overlap. Compare expected pay, self-reported English, AI tools they report using and whether they are open to time tracking. Show relevant work history and any test results already on file. Flag anything missing. Do not assume it.

Then narrow the list:

Which of these profiles has work closest to our API and background-job role? Separate what the developer reports from watched test evidence. Give me the questions I should ask in an interview.

Your assistant builds the marketplace shortlist. Arca.ph does not choose it for you.

What proof can I request after an introduction?

Start with the core two-camera proctored tests, in this order:

  1. English screening
  2. Thinking skills
  3. Coding with no AI

A real person watches the screen and a second, phone camera. Further options include a 2-hour build project with AI allowed, the Fire Drill (live pair programming on a real-world problem), and recorded reference checks. Tests are paid and optional. Results already on file can help your assistant compare people before you request more evidence.

See Proctored tests.

What happens when I hire?

You hire and pay the developer directly. On the marketplace, the 15% fee is based on first-year pay and charged once if you hire someone Arca.ph introduced within one year of the introduction. If you were already talking with the developer, there is no fee. There is no monthly markup, and every hire includes a 3-month free replacement.

Want Arca.ph to run the search instead? Done-for-you is 35% of first-year pay, once on hire. Pricing has both options.

FAQ

Does Arca.ph let my AI agent search candidates over MCP?

Yes. Connect your assistant to Arca.ph and ask it to search and compare the same profiles you can browse yourself.

Does the assistant see a separate talent catalog?

No. It searches the same profiles. Ask it to identify the profile evidence behind its recommendation.

Can it compare AI tools and time-tracking preferences?

Yes, as profile information. AI tools are self-reported, and time tracking is a preference. Neither is a watched test result.

Does the assistant contact candidates or hire them for me?

The search workflow does not hand over those decisions. You choose who to meet; Arca.ph handles outreach and introductions when you ask. You interview and decide whether to hire.

Do I need an AI assistant to use Arca.ph?

No. You can browse the profiles yourself for free.
