How to hire developers for a startup

How to hire developers for a startup takes eight steps. Arca.ph is a marketplace of vetted remote software engineers from around the world. It scores the candidates and moves the top people through the steps. You still interview and choose who to hire.

  1. Sign up free. Create an account and sign the Arca.ph Client Agreement. Profiles are free to view.
  2. Write the job. List the skills you need, how experienced the person should be, the expected compensation, and the hours you need to overlap with your team.
  3. Let Arca.ph score the candidates. Arca.ph scores every profile against that job and ranks them. An AI assistant you already use, such as Grok, Claude, or ChatGPT, can search and sort the same network. You choose who to meet (How it works).
  4. Read what the candidate tells us. This part is free. You can read the resume, expected compensation, where they live, the hours they can work and how those hours overlap your team, screening answers, and a written transcript of a video interview with an AI interviewer.
  5. Ask for an introduction. Arca.ph contacts a developer only when you ask. If the developer says yes, that is an introduction.
  6. Order Proctored tests. This is what the candidate shows us, and Proctored tests are paid. A real person watches each Proctored test. Order a Proctored coding test with no AI, and a Proctored English test, for the people you want to check (Proctored tests).
  7. Interview. You talk with the developer and decide if the person fits the job.
  8. Hire and pay once. On the marketplace, if you hire someone Arca.ph introduced within 1 year of the introduction, you pay a one-time 15% fee of first-year pay. You arrange the contract and pay with the developer. If the hire does not work out, there is a 3-month free replacement (Success fee vs hourly markup).

No AI assistant? You can still read every profile and follow the same steps.

What the candidate shows us

This is paid. A real person watches each Proctored test, including a Proctored coding test with no AI and a Proctored English test. You pay for the Proctored tests you order.

One fee, not a monthly markup

A staffing firm adds a markup every month the developer stays. A recruiter charges a fee to place someone. Arca.ph charges neither a monthly markup nor a recruiter fee.
